The STEM Project

In 2000, the U.S. Congress established the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) as a semi-autonomous agency within the U.S. Department of Energy (USDOE). It is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the safety, security, reliability and performance of the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile in order to reduce global danger from weapons.

It’s Office of Diversity and Outreach was established to work with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) to increase the number of minority students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics who would commit to filling roles in pursuit of this objective. The “HBCU NNSA Pipeline Program” was created by Allen University in response to this need.
